How we met

In January 2024, fate brought Maury from the U.S., Neha from India, and Daniela from Guatemala together in an ashram in India. They were all training to become certified yoga therapists through the IAYT.

They spent about a month immersed in the ashram's environment, dedicating themselves to hours of intensive yoga therapy practice. This time together wasn't just about mastering poses and techniques; it was also filled with deep, heartfelt conversations. They delved into enlightening and challenging topics, like class consciousness, the position of yoga within a billion-dollar industry, and their places within this system given their diverse backgrounds.

A potent mix of love and righteous indignation fueled their conversations. While there was a lot of affection and understanding among them, they also felt a deep-seated frustration when analyzing the current state of the world. This blend of love and passion became a driving force behind their vision for Vedkul. They wanted to create a space that broke away from all the norms of the yoga industry.

One evening, during a sunset on a dormitory balcony, they created VedKul Yoga Collective. Maury, Neha, and Daniela are not the typical yoga teachers who greet you with endless light. They understand that there is no light without darkness, and they don't hide from that darkness—they confront and move through it. This unique approach led them to start something truly inclusive in the world of yoga.
